Who are we?
Education Development Trust is a specialist in careers information, advice and guidance.
Education Development Trust (until 2015 CfBT Education Trust) has been a leading educational charity for more than 50 years, providing a range of educational services in the UK and internationally. We transform lives through education, designing and delivering programmes which have impact on their beneficiaries. As a non-profit organisation, the surplus we generate goes into educational research which we then make available at zero cost or to support the running of the programmes we operate. Throughout all our programmes, our staff work to our values of integrity, excellence, collaboration and accountability.
Our careers and employability work
We have been a leading careers service provider in the UK for more than 20 years, and we deliver a range of programmes across England, including the National Careers Service in two regions of the country. From working with individual schools and colleges to local authority contracts, we have a successful track record of managing programmes delivering careers, employment and skills support.
Our work with schools and colleges
We know how important it is that young people receive expert, informed advice and guidance (IAG) as they make the critical transition from school or college to further learning and employment. To make this happen, we not only deliver careers IAG to young people but also support with work experience placements (physical and virtual), careers information and education activities, consultancy, and tracking and data reporting services. Our programmes are designed to help learning providers meet their statutory responsibility for careers and to achieve the benchmarks established as guidance by the Gatsby Foundation.
In the past academic year, we have supported more than 11,000 students through our careers activities with 99.4 per cent of students feeling clearer about their goals after working with our careers advisers. Working in partnership with a range of stakeholders is central to the success of all of our programmes, and as a result we are currently working with 90 schools and colleges to deliver IAG services.
Our wider schools offer
In addition to our core IAG services, we are working with the Greater London Authority to run two Careers Clusters in London, Hillingdon and Croydon. These clusters, which are European Social Fund financed, bring together schools and colleges to develop a cohesive employer informed careers strategy in each establishment. They also deliver practical activities such as work experience and employer/ Higher Education pilots to widen awareness amongst young people. In London, we also run the Department of Education ASK project (Apprenticeship, Support and Knowledge) which sees us working with 375 schools across London to provide information and advice on apprenticeships. In west London we deliver the West London Careers Hub funded by the Careers and Enterprise Company, Greater London Authority and European Social fund. The aim of the programme is to support every young person to understand the full range of career opportunities available and to help them make their best next step.
Added value
For the schools and colleges we work with we provide an annual booklet ‘Choices’ for the Year 11 students and access to our programme of Virtual Employer Encounters. As well as making 25 hours of CPD available annually to our staff, we are an OCR accredited training centre for the Level 3, 4 and 6 IAG qualifications and we are able to offer this externally. We are accredited to the Matrix and Merlin Standards and Fairtrain for our work experience services. We seek to demonstrate our belief in evidence-informed practice and service management.
